Fretting-corrosion of Ti Co-Cr-Mo

Résumé

Biomedical Co-Cr-Mo alloys are registered as ASTM F75 / F1537 and its mechanical property and corrosion resistance are improved by additional element such as C and N or heat treatment. The reports about Ti addition in Co-Cr-Mo are very few. In this study, the effect of Ti addition in biomedical CoCrMo alloys is investigated by verifying the precipitates in the microstructure and the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance are researched by using fretting -corrosion test. Fabricated 5 types of Co-28Cr-6Mo-0.25C-xTi(x=0, 0. 05, 0.1, 0.2, 1) which includes different amount of Ti alloys and one commercial Co-Cr alloy are used for specimens. Fretting corrosion test are conducted in two kinds of solution such as 1M-NaCl and 1M-NaCl with albumin under open circuit potential(OCP). PMMA is used for counter part. After that, cross sectional configuration and wear volume are measured by 3D profile meter and surface observation is done by SEM. The more and more TiC type precipitates are predominant and the only precipitate is TiC in 1Ti alloy. In Fretting test, all the OCP values decrease after fretting start and increase immediately after fretting stop. In without albumin, the wear volume is different by specimens and it is very difficult to say the effect of Ti addition. In with albumin, the wear volume decrease drastically in comparison with in without albumin and 0.2Ti alloy and 1Ti alloy's wear volume are a little bit small in comparison with other specimens. In SEM observation, hall of precipitated by taken off and pitting corrosion are not seen clearly in wear track area of in without albumin. However, grain boundary corrosion around TiC type precipitates is seen clearly in 1Ti alloy. The debris due to albumin attached in the out of wear track area in with albumin.
