Approche géochimique pour la caractérisation des interactions entre eaux de surface et eaux souterraines en milieu karstique : domaine du canyon de la Cèze (Gard, France)

Abstract : The karst-river exchanges of the Ceze river canyon area were partly constrained by geochemical approach. This study was carried out on river and springs waters for moderate (june 2015) and low (july 2015) river flow periods. The chemical (major element concentrations) and isotopic (δ34SSO4) properties highlight the major control of water chemistry by rock weathering processes. The chemistry of waters from the upstream part of the Ceze basin is controlled by silicate and gypsum dissolution. Karst water chemistry is mainly controlled by Ceze water and by atmospheric contribution. During transition from moderate river flow period to low river flow period, the contribution of the karst to river flow increases in the canyon area. Chemical and isotopic data implies the low contribution of a third end-member probably influenced by pyrite weathering. Mixing percentage changes from spring to spring and from season to season, suggest different pathways within the geological formations of the karstic area.
